From The Ground Up, Therapeutic Horsemanship

For the past five years, From the Ground Up (FTGU) has offered horse related activities and riding instruction to people of all ages with special needs. As the community changes in its needs, FTGU is also changing to support those needs. Along with our current programming, we will be adding future programs such as therapeutic horsemanship for, seniors, school-based programs and veterans (NARHA*).

                 In Central New York

The Program: Horses for Heroes is a program based on the concept of soldiers helping soldiers with the aid of horses and riding. The camaraderie of fellow soldiers combined with the physical and mental stimulation of therapeutic riding has proven beneficial for both the riders and the volunteers. Therapeutic riding provides both physical benefits (improved balance, motor skills, coordination, & flexibility), as well as emotional and mental benefits (decreased mental stress, improved self-esteem & the creation of a social network). Horses for Heroes could be offered to veterans with physical disabilities, including amputations, as well as soldiers with diagnoses such as depression and PTSD.

FROM THE GROUND UP THERAPEUTIC HORSEMANSHIP, INC. is a non-profit corporation serving the needs of persons with disabilities in Central New York. Like other not-for-profit organizations, we have limited resources and with our new home come some new expenses and needs. Much of our funding comes from donations as do most of our horses, tack, and equipment. These donations are, of course, greatly appreciated. However, the "wish list" continues to exist but can be shortened with the help of caring and generous people.

VOLUNTEERS

We are need of more volunteers. Our volunteers serve in a variety of ways and experience with horses or people with disabilities is not required! Click on the "Volunteer" button above to learn more about getting involved. From the Ground Up is exists only because of its outstanding volunteers. We can offer you a life changing opportunity, giving you hands on experience with horses and riders with disabilities. Come join the fun!

We are always accepting donations. From The Ground Up relies on donations from the community. All of our horses have been donated along with most of our tack and equipment. We always have something on our wish list, but we are not limited to that.
